13 Mar Medicinal mushrooms for men’s (sexual) health
Mushrooms, in general, are well-known health foods that hold many benefits for the body. But did you know that medicinal mushrooms can also improve a men’s sexual health?
In this blog, we’re diving a little deeper into why the daily use of medicinal mushrooms can be beneficial for men and what the many different health benefits exactly are.
Which adjustments to make for better health?
We will probably all experience some periods in our lives where our sex drive can be a little low. It apparently affects up to one in five men – and even more women – at some point in their life.
This sexual health theme is often linked to stress; whether it’s personal or professional, it can have a massive impact on our sexual performance.
Nonetheless, a loss of libido can also suggest an underlying personal, medical, or lifestyle problem; this can, of course, be quite upsetting to both partners in a relationship. When your sexual health is not performing as it should be, this is your body’s way of telling you that it’s necessary to take a step back and review what is going on in your life that makes you experience this.
Thankfully there are lots of things that men – and women – can incorporate into their daily health routine to support better sexual health.
Like, having enough exercise, incorporating a well balanced and (more) plant-based diet is probably one of the most important things one can do since the food you put into your body has a massive impact on our health. What seems to be crucial is having less saturated fat and more fiber in your diet, and, of course, making small adjustments to one’s daily habits to experience less stress, like meditating a few minutes everyday.
Reishi Mushroom for sexual health
And how can medicinal mushrooms play a supporting role in this, you might ask? Well, the use of medicinal mushrooms goes back quite far in history. When looking at Reishi, this medicinal mushroom is highly valued in large parts of Asia, where Reishi mushroom has apparently been used for centuries to reduce these libido-decreasing factors.
It is believed Reishi’s anti-inflammatory, and anti-bacterial properties support the immune system and promote overall well being. These mushrooms have also been found to alleviate and aid the body in dealing with stress. That is also where the adaptogenic properties of mushrooms seem to be of great aid for promoting better sexual health.
Adaptogens are non-toxic substances or herbs that are held to increase the body’s ability to resist the damaging effects of stress and promote or restore normal physiological functioning; they also seem to have a very positive effect on the hormonal balance as well. Since hormones influence sexual health, adding adaptogenic medicinal mushrooms to your diet, appears to be an intriguing probability.
Chaga king of mushrooms and testosterone levels
The Siberians folk calls the Chaga mushroom a “Gift from God” because of its reported health benefits. This king of mushrooms seems to have a testosterone boosting effect and increases stamina, and while testosterone is essential for your sexual health, it’s vital for your overall health too.
Chaga contains various B vitamins, minerals (e.g., calcium, copper, iron, manganese, potassium, zinc), and multiple phytonutrients (plant nutrients), including flavonoids and phenols. Chaga mushrooms also contain high levels of the antioxidant, superoxide dismutase (SOD), an enzyme that is particularly powerful in fighting free radicals that can cause cell damage and disease.
This superoxide dismutase seems to be more potent than vitamins A, C, E, beta-carotene, and several other important free-radical fighters. Therefore, taking Chaga mushroom supplements or tea is associated with being an important immune system booster, then these other nutrients.
